Charles Cornwallis- British Leader
Charles Cornwallis, also known as 1st Marquess Cornwallis, was a British officer during the American Revolutionary War, who lead many battles against the colonies. He began as a lieutenant general under the leading of General Sir Henry Clinton in 1776. He participated in General William Howe's campaign for New York City, and was granted leave after, although that was cancelled when George Washington launched his surprise attack on Trenton on the 26th of December. After this battle, he continued on Howe's campaign for control of the rebel capital, Philadelphia.
Cornwallis left for England the November of 1778 to be with his wife, but she passed away in the February of 1779. He returned that July, and was to play the role of commander of the British's "Southern strategy" to invade the south. After, the second siege of Charleston took place. He participated in many other battles, including the Battle of Yorktown, the last battle of the american Revolutionary War, where he, of course lost. He was a great British General.
